We will leave early in the morning in our comfortable buses to La Romana to make our first stop in Altos de Chavón. Altos de Chavón is a place like no other: a replica of a 16th century Mediterranean town in the heart of the Dominican countryside. Meticulously designed by the Dominican architect, José Antonio Caro, and the Italian master designer and cinematographer, Roberto Coppa, every detail of Altos de Chavón was handcrafted by local artisans. The town is a cultural center for residents, tourists, and active artists from around the world. Active studios for artists of all mediums, from ceramics to textiles, screen printing and everything in between among the cobbled streets alongside shops and boutiques displaying their unique creations. The Art Gallery features works by renowned Dominican artists, as well as artists from around the world that help foster a dialogue of creativity and cultural exchange. Altos de Chavón is also home to the famous Altos de Chavón School of Design, which is affiliated with the Parsons School of Design in New York. Other sites include an archaeological museum, which offers insight into the fascinating history of the area, the Church of San Estanislao, a 5,000-seat amphitheater, and panoramic views of the Chavón River and the Caribbean Sea. Then we will continue to Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. Walking through the narrow roads of yesterday, we will visit the beginnings of the New World, where at the beginning of the XV century the first colonial houses were built, touring the Colonial City; We will pay homage to the Primate Cathedral of the Americas, the birthplace of a fervent Catholic faith; We will visit the National Pantheon, a Monument of historical importance because it was a Jesuit church, later becoming a final resting place for many prominent Dominican characters. We will also take a walk through the Alcázar de Colón, which will take you to the time of the first Spanish conquerors.
It is only done in private service with a minimum of 2 people. The full day excursion also includes a typical lunch in a famous Dominican food restaurant, to savor typical dishes.
