The Viñales Valley is a valley in the province of Pinar del Río, in the western sector of Cuba, located 178 km from Havana and 25 km from the city of Pinar del Río. Still, today we did not come to explain the technical, we came to show him everything you can do if you visit him.

The area that includes the valley and a large part of the mountain range that surrounds it in 1999 was designated a Cuban national park. In December of that same year, it was declared a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The Viñales Valley is one of the most visited natural spaces in Cuba, and it is also a natural treasure that not all tourists know about. The site has several tourist attractions, among them we can find:

  • La Cueva del Indio, where you can admire spectacular cave paintings and archaeological remains from pre-Columbian Cuban cultures.

  • The Mural of Prehistory is painted on the natural wall of the mogote Pita del Valle de Dos Hermanas. The painting includes dinosaurs, snails, giant marine reptiles, and humans. It represents (from the artist’s point of view) the evolutionary process of life in this area.
  • El Caballos de Los Mogotes, you can ride on horseback through the field of Viñales and appreciate the tobacco plantations and the mogotes.

  • Tobacco plantations here are located the largest tobacco production area in all of Cuba. In addition to seeing the plantations themselves, you can visit a factory to discover the entire process of making the famous Havana cigars.

Los Viñales is an excellent option for nature lovers and outdoor activities; the activities do not end here. There are many more hidden places to visit, which will undoubtedly take you back to this destination.
